Collectable is honored to present a 1954 game worn & signed Wilt Chamberlain high school uniform from the famed Sports Immortals collection. Considered one of the best big men in NBA history, the legend of Wilt the Stilt began at Overbrook High School in Philadelphia, PA. This jersey has been photo matched to March 6, 1954, the day he scored 32 points won the Philadelphia Inquirer’s MVP award in the Philadelphia High School Title Game. Photo matched by Sports Investors Authentication and signatures authenticated by JSA. Collectable received an offer to acquire the Wilt Chamberlain 1954 High School Full Uniform for $632,000 in May 2021; however, on a pro rata basis, 75% of shareholders declined the offer.

Chamberlain is one of a select few to have scored more than 30,000 points in an NBA career. A legend at famed Overbrook High School in Philadelphia, Chamberlain was the most coveted schoolboy recruit in the country. At Kansas, he led the Jayhawks to the 1957 NCAA Finals. Chamberlain’s skills were so far beyond his competitors that rule changes were enacted to harness his awesome abilities. When Chamberlain left the NBA in 1973, he had won two championships: one with the Philadelphia 76ers and one with the Los Angeles Lakers. Chamberlain held many records: he scored 50 or more points 118 times, 60 or more points 32 times, and is the NBA’s all-time leading rebounder with 23,924. Although his accomplishments were often credited to his tremendous size, Chamberlain was a talented athlete who possessed exceptional speed, agility, stamina, and strength.”

Presented is an Overbrook High School uniform issued and worn by Wilt Chamberlain during the mid 1950s. Uniform shows evidence of laundering and heavy game wear. There are loose threads and some puckering throughout the uniform. It shows signs of shrinking from incorrect washing. Minor staining is present. Photo matched by Sports Investors Authentication and signatures authenticated by JSA.The offering contains both the jersey and the shorts.
Joel Platt, founder of Sports Immortals, Inc., obtained it directly from Chamberlain’s mother during a visit to her home in Philadelphia on June 26th, 1961. Wilt was not there, so she signed a letter stating that “it’s a pleasure to hand over Wilt’s Overbrook High School Uniform, Good Luck!” Included with the uniform is both this letter and a notarized letter from Sports Immortals.

During the 1990s, Chamberlain autographed the Overbrook jersey on the front and back. Both autographs are certified by James Spence Authentication (JSA).
High school jerseys are prized possessions from pre-rookie collegiate and professional careers. In 2003, another Chamberlain game worn Overbrook High School jersey (top, no shorts) sold for $51,487 in a Lelands auction without a definitive photo match. Since 2014, Chamberlain’s mint Fleer rookie card has skyrocketed from $11,000 to $85,000, an 8x increase.
Jerseys are considered the most valuable sports memorabilia because they are the closest thing to athletes, literally the shirts off their backs. The world’s priciest piece of memorabilia is a 1920 game worn Babe Ruth uniform top, which SCP Auctions sold for $4,415,658 in May, 2012.
Sports Immortals will retain 51% equity ownership in the offering.
