THE ATHLETE

Tiger Woods is widely regarded as one of the greatest golfers, and one of the most famous athletes of all time. He will be inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2021. Some of the remarkable accomplishments from Wood’s career include: 15 major championship wins, including 5 Masters, 4 PGA championships, 3 U.S. Open’s, and 3 The Open Championships. He has won 82 official PGA Tour event, and owns the record for lowest career scoring average and most career earnings of any player in PGA Tour history. Woods is one of five players (along with Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, and Jack Nicklaus) to have won all four major championships in his career, known as the Career Grand Slam, and was the youngest to do so. Throughout the first decade of the 21st century, Woods was the dominant force in golf. He was the top-ranked golfer in the world from August 1999 to September 2004 (264 weeks) and again from June 2005 to October 2010 (281 weeks).

When you think of holy grail type Tiger Woods rookie cards, his Sports Illustrated rookie card is a must-own. Considered his true rookie card by many collectors.
Considered one of the most condition sensitive Tiger Woods rookie cards in existence and rarely seen on the market in PSA 10. There are only 26 PSA 10 copies known to exist in the world .
Recent sales on a PSA 10 include: $35,000 in February 2021, $26,400 in December 2020, $17,877 in July 2020, $16,970 in July 2020, and $14,999 in June 2020.
A BGS 10 Pristine version of the card sold for $55,000 via eBay in February 2021. A BGS 9.5 sold for $20,000 in February 2021.
This Woods rookie card was part of nine sports cards included on one page. The attached cards could be made single by separating the perforations between them, a difficult maneuver usually resulted damaged cards. As a result, this fragile perforated issue is rarely seen with near perfect edges and perfectly preserved corners. The surfaces are sheet fresh without displaying typical wear, scuffs or wrinkles. The card also boasts perfect centering.
In 1996, at the age of 20, Woods catapulted into golf stardom. He immediately signed advertising deals with Nike, Inc. and Titleist - ranking as the most lucrative endorsement contracts in golf history at that time. Woods rejuvenated golf, injecting much needed youth and star power into the sport.
The consignor is retaining $10,000 of equity in the offering.
