IN BRIEF

Considered “one of Jackie’s best looking cards in one of the hobby’s most important issues”, Collectable is honored to present an iconic Jackie Robinson 1952 Topps graded PSA 8.5. There are only 11 copies graded higher in existence by PSA. The 1952 Topps Jackie Robinson represents the first Topps card issued of the immortal Brooklyn second baseman - making it one of the most desired cards, behind Mickey Mantle, in arguably the most iconic set in collecting history. A must-own for collectors and deserving of blue-chip status. Recently, a Mickey Mantle 1952 Topps PSA 8 sold for over $2 million.

THE ATHLETE

Jackie Robinson is not just a baseball hero, but an American hero. As a pioneer who broke baseball’s color barrier in 1947, he raised hopes and opportunities for the second half of the 20th century. Robinson was a central figure in the Brooklyn Dodgers’ National League Dynasty, playing in six World Series and taking the borough’s only title in 1955. He finished his illustrious and historic career with the following accolades: 6x All-Star (1949-1954), NL MVP (1949), MLB Rookie of the Year (1947), NL Batting Champion (1949), 2x NL stolen base leader (1947, 1949). His jersey number 42 is retired by all MLB teams. In addition, Robinson was selected to the Baseball Hall of Fame and the Major League Baseball All-Century Team.

THE OFFERING

This offering contains a Jackie Robinson 1952 Topps #312 graded PSA 8.5.
There are only 11 copies graded higher by PSA in existence, excluding qualifiers.
According to Sports Collectors Daily, “The 1952 Topps Jackie Robinson represents the first Topps card issued of the immortal Brooklyn second baseman. It is also #312, one of the rare 1952 Topps high numbers. This makes the 1952 Topps Jackie Robinson one of the most desired cards, next to Mantle, in the 1952 Topps baseball series.”
According to OldSportsCards.com, “This is truly an exceptional card and a must-have for any Robinson or 1952 Topps collector.”
According to Mile High Auctions, “Robinson’s position in this difficult high-number series makes for one of the most coveted, and pricey, baseball cards of the 1950s. Even his Bowman debut of 1949 can’t keep pace with his '52 Topps card, but it’s no surprise given the incredible portrait and deep red background color that the super-sized Topps card offers.”
According to Heritage Auctions, “On Jackie Robinson’s tombstone in Brooklyn’s Cypress Hills Cemetery, just five miles from where Ebbets Field once stood, these words are engraved: “A life is not important except in the impact it has on other lives.” By that metric, no athlete in American sporting history is more important than the man who took the dangerous first step across baseball’s shameful color line. Though Ruth and Cobb may stand taller in the sport’s pantheon, from a purely sociological standpoint Robinson has no challenger in regards to the cause of racial equality.”
A PSA 9 copy recently sold for $960,000. A PSA 8 copy recently sold for $192,000.
In 1952, Robinson hit .308 with 19 home runs, 24 stolen bases, 104 runs scored, and a league-high .440 OBP. These are outstanding numbers for a second baseman.
